The Varsity Girls Volleyball team opened the season this past weekend at the Crown Point Invitational, competing against nine strong teams from around the area. The Lady Raiders started the morning pool play with a strong performance, defeating Illiana Christian in two sets, 25-15 and 25-14. They then faced a talented Cathedral team in a hard-fought three-set battle. After dropping the first set 20-25, the Raiders battled back to win the second set 25-19 and finished strong in the deciding set, 15-8. In the afternoon, the Raiders advanced to the Championship Pool, where they faced two very strong opponents: Crown Point and Southwood. The Lady Raiders battled the Crown Point Bulldogs in another thrilling three-set match. After falling 22-25 in the opening set, the Raiders showed tremendous fight, winning a marathon second set 28-26 before closing out the match 15-10 in the third. The Raiders then faced Southwood in their final match of the day. Despite their best efforts, the Lady Raiders came up short, falling 14-25 and 13-25. Finishing 2nd at the Crown Point Invitational is an outstanding way to begin the season. The Lady Raiders showed resilience, determination, and the ability to compete with some of the area's strongest teams. Congratulations to the Lady Raiders on a fantastic opening weekend!
