The Harrison boys cross country team finished eighth out of 25 teams Saturday at the 44th Annual Culver Academies Cross Country Invitational, scoring 262 points. The Raiders took a different approach to the meet, choosing not to race their normal varsity seven. Instead, Harrison used the opportunity to give other runners valuable experience against a strong field while allowing the varsity athletes to get some rest. The decision was part of the team's preparation for the final weeks of the season. With the postseason getting closer, Harrison wanted to give its depth runners an opportunity to step into bigger roles while making sure its top runners were rested and healthy. Penn won the team competition with 55 points, followed by LaGrange with 64 and Northridge with 89. Harrison's eighth-place finish came without its regular varsity lineup, making the meet another valuable test for the team's depth. For the runners who competed, Culver provided an opportunity to race against quality competition and gain experience that could become important later in the season. The Raiders will now turn their attention to Nike XC Town Twilight next weekend, where Harrison expects to return to its normal lineup. The meet will be another major opportunity to test the team as it continues building toward the IHSAA postseason. With the varsity seven rested and the rest of the team gaining valuable racing experience at Culver, Harrison heads into next weekend focused on being ready for Nike Twilight and the championship portion of the season.
